[TIP] Cool your house in summer
1. Manage your windows and shutters well
This seems obvious, but we often don't do it enough. Close the windows early in the morning , before the outside temperature is too high, preferably below 18‑20 C°. Likewise, open them in the evening only when the temperature has dropped.
Concerning the shutters, it is absolutely necessary to close them all day in order to avoid the sun's rays and to let in the heat.2. Indoor and outdoor plants
2. Put plants indoors and outdoors
Thanks to evapotranspiration, plants absorb heat and help limit the rise in temperature in the house. Well positioned outside (South and West), shrubs and trees will provide shade during the summer, while allowing the sun to pass through in winter following the loss of leaves. Watering your plants in the evening will also cool the environment around the house more quickly.
3. Unplug electrical appliances
Even without using them, plugged‑in devices consume energy and produce heat . So unplug your coffee maker, toaster and so on. You will save a little on both your electricity bill and heat production, while doing something for the environment! It goes without saying that you have no interest in using your oven or fryer.
4. Insulate!
We often think of insulation to protect ourselves from the cold, but more rarely to protect ourselves from the heat . Good insulation, particularly with biosourced products with high inertia , helps keep the house cool. Insulators such as wood wool allow heat to be stored for up to 12 hours, before releasing it at night when temperatures have dropped.
